Canadian Pacific Railway Supersedes the Dawson Trail by 1885

From Lorette, continue east on Dawson Road #207. In about 11 kilometres the road turns northward towards Hwy #1 and you see a railway track.

To go see the Dufresne Grain Elevator, turn right (east) on River Road, the gravel road BEFORE the tracks, and stay to the left on road beside the train track. The elevator is less than a kilometer east.

The grain elevator is private property but road past it allows for public access - please respect the grain elevator property if you get out to walk around.  Photo by Myriam Dyck.

Once done, go back west on River Rd to #207 and turn right (north). You go over the railway tracks and immediately turn right (east) on Dawson Road #207.

Continue east approximately 7 kms from this corner and you will arrive at Ste-Anne. Dawson Road #207 is gravel for this section then becomes paved at Ste-Anne again.

Dufresne Grain Elevator

"Although of relatively recent construction, the Dufresne grain elevator is significant because it is the first elevator visible to westbound travelers on the Trans-Canada Highway. The Dawson Trail came through here to Lorette westbound and eastbound to Ste. Anne. A wooden grain elevator in Dufresne, on the CNR Sprague Subdivision in the Rural Municipality of Tache, was formerly operated by the Manitoba Pool Elevators and its successor Agricore. Closed in November 2000, the elevator was purchased by a group of four local farmers and has been used for private grain storage since 2001."
