Site Historique Monseigneur-Taché Historic Site
The Ste. Geneviève Roman Catholic Church, in Sainte-Geneviève in the Rural Municipality of Tache, was built in 1918. A municipally designated historic site, restoration work was undertaken as part of the Manitoba Prairie Churches Project. A community museum is based in the nearby rectory building.
The Site Historique Monseigneur-Taché Historic Site is a designated heritage site and museum of French-Canadian historical, cultural and religious artifacts housed in the Old Rectory Museum (Musée du Vieux-Presbytère) and centennial wooden church, both dating from 1918. Located on 20 acres of natural meadow and woodland, this serene setting is a fine example of what historically constitutes the heart of French-Canadian villages across western Canada. The church was restored following an unfortunate incident in 1994 when lightning struck the steeple and caused considerable damage.
